CEREMONY SET for NEW SAN JOAQUIN JUDGE

Dignitaries, friends and family are invited to the swearing-in ceremony for Robin Appel, who has been appointed to the California Superior Court bench by Governor Gray Davis.
The public is also cordially invited to attend.
Speakers will include Third District Court of Appeal Justice Connie Callahan, District Attorney John Phillips, San Joaquin County Bar Association President Adam Corren, Deputy Public Defender Peter Fox, Dan Lambertson, and Judge Appel's brother, San Francisco attorney Bill Weisberg. San Joaquin Presiding Judge George Abdallah will administer the oath of office.
Immediately following, there will be a reception in the Jury Assembly Room on the Lower Level of the Courthouse.
Judge Appel was appointed Family Law Commissioner for the San Joaquin Court in 1995. She is the co-chair of the Unified Family Court Planning Project, serves on the Community-Focused Court Planning Team, the Local Rules of Court Committee, the San Joaquin County Domestic Violence Task Force, and the Youth Policy Council.
Before joining the bench, Judge Appel was in private practice handling business litigation, personal injury, probate and family law work, and served as president of the San Joaquin County Bar Association. She is active in the community, president of Temple Israel, and serves on the board of directors of the Children's Home of Stockton.
Judge Appel earned a juris doctorate degree at McGeorge School of Law in 1979, and a B.A. in Anthropology from the University of California, Berkeley.
